Thinking and Creative Inspiration

"The trouble with people is they don't think!"

If I heard my mom say this once growing up, I heard it a thousand times. And I know for sure she was quoting someone else ... so probably at least a few more folks out there were raised to the same tune.

Thinking has a lot to be said for it, doesn't it? You can think through the solution to a problem, think about the potential consequences of your actions before you take them, or think about what you wish you would have said instead of sticking your foot in your mouth with your co-worker yesterday afternoon.

Thinking is a great thing! But it's not everything. Consider these 3 powerful add-ons to optimize your thinking experience and get better results. ;-)

Add-on #1: Information-gathering.

Surely you've been there. I know I have. You come to a stumbling block in your life. Even though you may be very good at managing 98.5% of the decisions that run past you on a daily basis, something from that other 1.5% gets stuck in your mental inbox. You think and think and think. And you keep coming up with the same answer.

"It's impossible!"

Then you pop onto the Internet and do a little research. Turns out it's not so impossible at all. Turns out there experts all over who have bunches of tips on how to get out of the very mess you're facing. Add a little fresh information, and you're golden.

Add-on #2: Objective input.

You "think" you know what to do. But you're not sure. So you create a focus group, send out a questionnaire, ask a few friends, or stick your product out on the table at a holistic expo. Then you listen for feedback. Chances are, somebody else's viewpoint is going to make an impression on you!

How come this works so well? Simple. Everybody comes from a different viewpoint and you've got blinders on. No big deal here, we all do. Just listen and ... well, need I say you're golden?

Add-on #3: The creative inspiration.

This is one of my personal favorites. It's the big "aha." Or maybe it's a little "aha." But even a little "aha" can create big changes in your life -- usually for the better.

Most of us are used to getting "aha's" during certain types of activities -- driving the car, waking up from sleep, or taking a shower. But did you know you can create an "aha" when you want one? It's true! It's just a matter of stimulating your intuition.

And when that big "aha" shows up on your doorstep ... well, you're golden!

So back to thinking. If you try and solve a problem in a closed loop, without considering the 3 powerful add-ons, you're likely to come up with only a single stale answer or two. Yet by opening the loop with an add-on, your thinking takes on fresh energy. It becomes more powerful and effective. With the net result being ...

You're golden!
