Success Breeds Success

Success breeds success. Sure, we all know that. When things are going well, it's easy to make smart choices and stay ahead. We've all been there:

  • You're on a "lightening up" program and you've just parted with 5 pounds. Do you run out and eat a whole carton of Ben & Jerry's in a mad rush to put it back on? Of course not. You order the salad.

  • Things are going great at work. You just got a raise and a promotion with just enough challenge to keep things interesting. Do you ask for an extra month off to bask on a deserted island somewhere in the Carribean? Of course not. You show up early for work and get organized for a burst of productivity.

When you're in "the flow," it's generally pretty easy to see the kind of choices that are going to keep you there.

Until...

Something happens.

Yep. Once in a while, something happens.

  • Someone in your family becomes ill.
  • You "crash and burn" yourself, from investing too much energy in your project and too little energy in maintaining your well-being.
  • The grass on the other side of the fence begins to look just a little too green.
  • You get hooked up in an unproductive relationship.
  • You slip on a banana peel.

When you're "up," it's reasonably easy to stay "up." (Provided you're taking care of yourself.) This principle is one of the main reasons that the Law of Attraction works so well. You attract to yourself more of what you've already got.

Unfortunately, when you're "down," it's also pretty easy to stay "down." Same law.

So when the inevitable "something" happens, what's a person to do? Success breeds success, sure. But how do you get the ball rolling? How do you switch gears? Once something's slipped, how do you get yourself into that desired state of wholeness once again?

3 Tips To Jump-Start a Success Cycle:

  1. Place a very high priority on your own well-being and the well-being of your loved ones. If your success in one area depletes you in another, it isn't really much of a success. Be willing to tweak, if necessary, to get the fine points right.
  2. Appreciate what you have. No matter what your situation, there's always something to be grateful for. As one of my former karate instructors used to say, "Any day above ground is a good day!" See it, speak it, and feel it. (By the way, here's a great place to share your appreciative observations: Appreciation and Gratitude)
  3. Take action. Not just any action, but action designed to lead you in the direction you want to go. You'll need a vision and a plan in order to do this effectively. Stay tuned as we'll talk more about this step in the coming weeks.

That's it -- no kidding! It's really that simple.

Before you know it, you'll have gotten your groove back. ;-)
