Not too long ago, George shared a really helpful distinction with me. Problem or predicament? (Follow the link to read about it in his own words.) He came across it while reading a new book, The Difference Maker, by John Maxwell. As George reports, Dr. Maxwell suggests that many of us create undue stress in our lives by mixing up our problems and predicaments.
Problems are solvable, yet often we fail to see a solution and waste a lot of energy tolerating unsatisfactory situations we could have readily improved. If you think your job is boring, that is a problem.
Predicaments must be managed, yet often we waste a lot of energy trying to fix something that is not within our power to affect -- or complaining repeatedly about it to anyone who will listen. If your spouse snores, that is a predicament.
Problems and predicaments can both provide great material for a wellness coaching project! After all, if either a problem or predicament is causing you to waste energy unnecessarily, you are compromising your health and quality of life. Who wants that?
So now for a marvelous coincidence. Our next wellness coaching section starts next Monday, September 15th!
