You know all about affirmations. They're positive statements you can keep in mind to stay focused on creating the outcome you desire. Affirmations are great for healing! Instead of dwelling on the problem, affirmations keep you squarely pointed in the direction of an empowered solution. But how do they build your immune system?
First of all, let's consider the value of a healthy immune system. Even though you may be supremely healthy yourself, perhaps you know people who are always catching the latest cold, flu, sinus infection, or something of that nature. Bummer of a way to live, isn't it? Not only do they feel yucky, but it's bad for the family economy! Hard to work when you're sick.
A healthy immune system also provides some measure of protection from other things that most of us don't want, cancer being just one example. And it comes to our aid should we come down with something that we want to relegate to the personal history book, so we can move past it and get back on with life.
All in all, a strong immune system is an extremely valuable commodity.
That said, there are a few supremely simple things you can do to strenthen your immunity. They are free. They are called affirmations. Why not give 'em a try?
Let's start with a quick review of the science. Messenger molecules called neuropeptides transmit emotional messages to the physical body. This affects the function of your immune system, among other things. Happy emotions, such as those based on gratitude, thankfulness, and unconditional love, create health. "Poor me" feelings and simmering hostility sabotage your efforts.
Emotions are based on perception.
Grocery store checker makes a rude remark. Perceive that he is slighting you because you're stupid, and you will feel terrible about yourself. You probably won't think much of him either. This all has an adverse effect on your immune system.
Perceive that he is having a bad day, though, and you have the opportunity to intervene with a generous comment. "Tough one, eh? Have you been here a while?"
You'll feel good about yourself after this encounter, particularly if he sighs and say, "Oh man, you don't know the half of it. My dad is in the emergency room and I can't get off till 7 o'clock." You'll offer a kind word. Your immune system will be the lucky benefactor of your compassionate response.
If perception is the key, then what controls perception?
Your state. Just as the element water can exist in a state of liquid, solid, or gas, the element you can exist in any number of states as well. Some more effective than others. Some healthier than others. All easily within your control on an average day -- thanks to the simple affirmation.
Live your life genuinely from possibility, unconditional love, compassion, enchantment, vitality, resilience, or something of that nature ... and your immune system will favor you with its many blessings. Live from regret, adversity, affliction, or scarcity and you will pay the price with your health.
How to create your state?
Easy. Select your desired state. If you have trouble choosing from among the many favorable options, just choose a role model and figure out what state they hang out in the most. Then emulate their best qualities yourself. Affirm those qualities with a simple statement. Maybe something like this: "I am creativity, wholeness, and unconditional love."
Once you come up with something that fits, commit it to memory. Repeat it as you nod off to sleep at night, as you wake in the morning, and any time in between that you sense you're forgetting who you really are.
Follow any health-promoting insights you may receive while hanging out in your ideal state. They are likely to support your highest good. Then simply watch the results. You'll most likely be quite pleased!
